Helpful tips for the correct usage of Internet




In today’s lifestyle internet is the integral part of our life. We do probably spend most of our time surfing on internet. We do use internet to browse, earn knowledge, socialize with friends and play games. 


Internet and computer has dramatically changed the working environment in recent years, and employees are still finding what might be appropriate practice with the available resources.  

Here are some of the points that can help you in safely usage of internet at workplace: - 



·   Be wary of connecting external storage devices to office PC: -

USB flash devices and some other highly storage devices help us in carrying large volume of information. However, few devices can be bedrock for the viruses and threats for the computer. These devices can infect your machines and ultimately may harm office data and network security. 




·  Exercise care when installing software on the PC in your ease: -

Usually, we do get excited regarding new software and updating the existing one. However, always double check the source. Is it a reputable business? Will it harm the workplace’s data?

Before proceeding you can include some questions: -

a)  Can you foresee any difficulties in installation?

b)  Do you have backup for all the program files?

Lastly, the thing is be careful while installing software on office machine. 






·  Limit the amount of Personal data that is stored on office machine: -

At office the laptop/PC on which you are working is not your personal PC, it does not mean that you will use it according to your preferences. It is therefore strongly recommended that limit the amount of personal information at the office PC. 





·  Never use office email address for personal purposes and vice versa: -

Always maintain distinction between office and your personal data. As office do assign us with email address for work purposes but not for personal as well. Using work email for personal use in some conditions is acceptable but using it continuously can be the case of breach.





This point is major concern in the workplace in recent years. Decline in employee productivity is been observed due to continuous web surfing, instant messaging for personal use and many more. In some places where such freedom exists it is advised to maintain some record regarding how much internet is used by whom and for what purpose.  (Marius, 2011)




Lastly, internet is a very powerful gift to humankind. Use it in correct way, to gain knowledge and to get success in life instead of misusing it. Use internet according to your need and requirements. Moreover, use it in right place where you are regarding your first preference. Always keep your personal data and professional data separate from one another.
