What is Internet ?
It is the world’s most popular network. It got started as an academic research in the year 1969 and was introduced to world in 1990’s. Now it is known and used by everyone on earth. We do get access to it through web browser. It is just part of other internet applications. Some of the popular internet applications are email and BitTorent.

Like other things internet also has three basic parts: -

·     The last mile

·       Data centres

·       The Backbone  

Who first get started with internet?

It began as ARPANET an academic research network which got fund from the military. This big project was led by Bob Taylor an Administrator, the operation began in 1969.

Who runs Internet?

Actually no one runs the internet!! Yes, its true no one runs internet. It’s organised as a decentralized networks of networks. The technical networks that are shared are organized by Internet Engineering Task Force. It is an open organisation where everyone can come forward and present their views about the working of the institutions and welcomes new suggestions.

The interesting thing about internet is the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (  ICANN ). It is though responsible for internet governance. (B.Lee, 2015)

Billions of internet users rely on multiple application and networking technologies, including

Internet Protocol (IP): - It is known as backbone of internet communications. The internet is composition of hardware and software layers, it is used to address schemes and identify unique connected devices.

The mostly used versions for communications are Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6).

The internet got started with the US government which began to build a computer network in 1960s. (Techopedia, n.d.) See the source image
